Spokane had quite a flurry (in and around) of fire activity yesterday. Some honking great winds had a lot to do with it. I was trying to catch a short nap yesterday evening and the entire bus was rocking back and forth. There is an awning type thing that is over the back half of the bus to shade the roof from direct sunlight. It is actually tied TO the bus.... that is probably the only reason it did not fly away over the hill. The patio umbrella (and the heavy wrought iron base) took a wander down the hill.... along with the aluminum ladder. Still..... Today - and last night - the weather is MUCH cooler. All that heat was just blown away. Of course, downed power lines have started all kinds of fires - one to the south east of spokane (we are north and west) has already eaten 13 houses. I think it may be time to put back on the volunteer fireman hat. It would CERTAINLY be a great tool to take off a little of the excess body fat! With 8 years behind me in a busy department, and now the last 18 months off.... it is getting VERY hard to watch a truck go by without turning around and chasing it. Only the fact that I KNOW that the guys doing the job don't need to worry if the civilians trying to help are going to be useful or just in the way keeps me from doing it. |
